  1. On Tuesday morning, a pedestrian bridge on the 1800 block of Castroville Road collapsed around 8:30 a.m. after a dump truck crashed into it. City contractors were working on the roadway when a dump truck started to leave but didn't lower its open box bed. No pedestrians were on the bridge at the time, and the driver and bystanders were not injured. A nearby playground is already in the process of being moved, for fear of traffic accidents, and this incident emphasizes the need to move quickly on that relocation. More details on KENS5.
  2. The City of San Antonio is offering a total of $1 million to public, private and charter schools for the Eco Scholars program. Applications are due by March 15. This program is "part of San Antonio’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan and funded by the new Resiliency, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability fund." The grant will be gifted in $3,000, $5,000 and $10,000 amounts. For more details, visit KSAT San Antonio.
  3. San Antonio police have tactics to respond quickly to "street takeovers." Somehow, San Antonio officers tipped off Austin police about the recent takeover there. After last month's takeover on Callaghan Road, Chief Bill McManus says that whenever these incidents happen, police "take the wind out" of perpetrators by making arrests, seizing guns, issuing citations and impounding cars. It's not an easy thing to deal with, but the city police are prepared. More on this story at KENS5.
  4. House Bill 1937, filed by State Rep. Jessica González, would allow municipalities to "green light" the use of recreational weed within their jurisdictions. "Adults 21 and over could possess up to 2.5 ounces of pot, including up to 15 grams of cannabis concentrates." The proposal would impose a 10% tax on all cannabis products that would allow for regulation, testing and school funding. This bill comes from activist groups in San Antonio and other cities, looking for ways to decriminalize small amounts of cannabis. Check out more on this story at San Antonio Current.
