Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- San Antonio runoff elections begin early voting May 30, and officially takes place on June 10. "The City Council has approved a runoff election for Council Districts 1 and 7. The runoff election is necessary when no candidate receives the majority of votes." During early voting, hours begin at 8 a.m. while voting day, hours begin at 7 a.m. To view the official schedule and locations to vote, visit WOAI.
- The San Antonio Spurs and its Sport for Healing Fund helped build a new playground for Uvalde's C.I.S.D. Dual Language Academy. "The project included design input from the students themselves, as well as a collaborative effort from groups eager to foster healing and growth in Uvalde." - A San Antonio man was previously arrested for "child trafficking while out on bond for allegedly harboring a runaway." 40-year-old Gilberto Garza III after allegedly sexually assaulted a minor in December 2020. The underage victim was advertised on "MocoSpace" by 19-year-old Brian Longoria. The victim as then sexually assaulted by Garza who sent her funds through CashApp. Now, Garza has an active warrant for his arrest and is currently not in custody. - More green space: "A massive new 204-acre park has opened on the city's Northside, perfect for nature enthusiasts. On Wednesday, May 17, San Antonio officials hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new park that will also soon house a huge inclusive pirate-themed playground." (mySA)
- SAPD, Crime Stoppers message: "San Antonio police and Crime Stoppers are looking for the person responsible for the robbery of a bank on the city’s far Northwest Side. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on May 9 at a Frost Bank in the 23780 block of Interstate 10 West." (KSAT San Antonio)
- Weekend fun in the city! "From a prom night redo for adults to a hip-hop celebration at Peacock Alley, here are the top events happening in the city." (San Antonio Magazine)
