Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. A local couple who met in their 20s fell in love after 40 years of friendship. Elaine Flores' and Steve Schriedel's love story is one of missed cues, disconnecting and re-connecting. Holiday- appropriate, this couple found the right balance of chemistry in time to celebrate Valentine's Day this year. Their bond became much closer as the two supported each other while going through Schriedel's mother dying. (Ground News) Full story on Express News (paywall)
  2. A male victim was found shot on the shoulder of IH-35 near Rittiman Road early Wednesday morning, after a road rage dispute with the driver of an 18-wheeler. "Police initially said the victim was in critical condition when he was rushed to a hospital. Later, though, they upgraded his condition. The big rig driver sped away." Police don't have more details about the shooter. Visit KSAT San Antonio for updates on this story.
  3. Bexar County resident Patrick Horner filed a written complaint about what he calls "a case of racial profiling but police misconduct as well." Horner claims a Bexar County Sheriff Deputy shot twice at his dog, while he was on a walk just after 5 a.m. The dog was not injured, but Horner states the deputy never announced or identified himself before approaching. Since filing his complaint in October 2022, Horner said "he was met with accusations that he was stealing his own dog." Bexar County Sheriff's Office made no comments regarding this case. (WOAI)
  4. A program called the Healthy Corner Stores initiative is benefiting low-income neighborhoods with limited means of travel to shop for fresh produce. "Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran secured $50,000 in city funding to launch this pilot program" in October 2019. The program is in more than 30 stores now and gained the attention of city leaders outside of San Antonio, who possibly will replicate the same concept in cities like Houston.
