  1. The 28th Annual "Basura Bash" takes place this weekend! Executive director of River Aid San Antonio explains, “If we don’t protect these environments, they will become degraded and we won’t have any wildlife in our city and our ecology will unfortunately degrade.” Last year a turnout of 1,800 volunteers picked up over 22 tons of trash. Volunteers are still needed for cleanups of Martinez Creek, Rodriguez Park and Culebra Park. To learn more, visit KSAT San Antonio.
  2. San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg is running for his last term in the May elections. "Nirenberg has spent ten years in political office so far, starting with four years as District 8 councilman in 2013. The last six years have been spent as mayor." Nirenberg talks about his term goals if elected: higher paying careers, affordable housing supply and solutions for root causes of crime. Pop over to Texas Public Radio for more on this story.
  3. Local runner Collin Zepulveda expressed his concerns and wishes for more sidewalks for runners, cyclists and neighbors to use safely. He said he notices that in areas where new sidewalks and traffic flow was improved, people generally are using those spaces more. The city's sidewalk program currently does not include the areas Zepulveda described, in the northwest part of town. Read more at FOX 29.
  4. San Antonio artist Jesse Treviño passed away at age 76, after battling throat cancer. Decades ago, when he suffered severe wounds and PTSD from serving in the Vietnam War, Treviño's outlook on getting what he wanted in life was, "I had to find ways of doing something, a little unorthodox. But the bottom line, you get it done!" Remembering the legend and his most famous works of art and accomplishments: Nine-story tiled mural at Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital, La Veladora, Treviño’s 40-foot-tall 3-D mosaic at Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, a place in the Smithsonian, and the esteem of presidents.
