Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- KSAT Community Town Hall will be speaking about access to mental health care for the communities that really need it, on May 17. The groups of people that can find it challenging to get mental health care are foster kids transitioning into adulthood and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. "Leigh Waldman will be speaking with Dr. Sally Taylor, senior vice president chief of Behavioral Medicine, University Health, Jacob Ulczynski, senior director, Human Services & Agency Coordination," and more representatives that you can find at KSAT San Antonio.
- Mackenzie Hernandez-Garcia, a 2-year-old girl, was killed in drive-by shooting on the block of Future Drive. A shots-fired call was made around 1:30 p.m. on Monday. When officers arrived, 2-year-old Mackenzie was found dead at the door. A woman was babysitting five other children at the time, which were all unharmed in the incident. Police believe that the suspect intended the shots for someone else and not the children. Police Chief McManus said this was a "pathetic act" and that the investigation is underway to find the suspect. KENS5 has more on this story.
- A native San Antonio film and TV writer joined the Hollywood writers' strike in Los Angeles. “We want to be properly compensated for our work,” Perez said. He recently was at UTSA in March, teaching students about screenwriting. He was a writer for the second season of "Selena: The Series" on Netflix. Perez is part of the Writers Guild of America, who are advocating for pay increases and rights to residuals from specifically, streamed TV. Visit KSAT San Antonio for more.
