U Of H Athlete From Sugar Land Killed In Boating Accident
Robert Platt, 20, of Sugar Land was killed in a boating crash Wednesday night on Lake LBJ, officials said.

MARBLE FALLS, TX — A Sugar Land man who was also a University of Houston athlete was killed Wednesday evening on Lake LBJ in Marble Falls, officials with Texas Parks and Wildlife reported. Robert Platt, 20, who was a member of the U of H track team, was reportedly on a boat with friends at about 9:30 p.m. when the crash occurred, according to Texas Game Wardens.
"I cannot express how devastated everyone in the Houston Track & Field program is. Robert was an outstanding young man, and our team was blessed to have him as a part of it for two years," Track & Field Head Coach Leroy Burrell said. "We share our condolences with Kaddie, their family and friends, and all who knew and loved Robert."
According to the U of H webpage, Robert’s mother, Kaddie Platt, led the Houston Volleyball program from 2012 to 2019, and her son followed her to U of H after a successful athletic and academic at George Ranch High School.

Platt, who’d just completed his sophomore season at U of H, was part of two successful track and field programs, according to the university webpage.

Officials said no one else on the boat was injured and officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
Funeral services for Platt have not been announced.
