DIY Winter Craft: Upcycled Mittens
Instead of throwing out your favorite sweater, upcycle it into a warm, toasty pair of DIY winter mittens.

Even if you don't have any sewing experience, we bet you'll be able to create these super simple mittens. Plus, you won't feel guilty about having to part with your old sweaters.

- Upcycled sweater
- Fabric scissors
- Disappearing ink pen
- Sewing pins
- Sewing machine or sewing needle and thread
Instructions:
#1. Lay the upcycled sweater flat. Create your mitten template by placing your hand on the sweater near the bottom. If the sweater has ribbing, you can use that as your cuff. Otherwise, just be sure you place your hand high enough to leave room for the cuff.

#2. Using the pen, trace around your hand, leaving about 1/2" of space around your hand.
#3. Using fabric scissors, cut out the mitten. Be sure to cut through both layers of the sweater.
#4. Repeat steps 1-3 to create the second mitten.

#5. Pin each mitten together with right sides facing.

#6. Using a sewing machine with a zig zag stitch or a sewing needle and thread, sew around the entire mitten. Repeat for the second mitten.
Tip: If you're using a sewing machine, back stitch at the beginning and end of your seam to secure the mitten edges.
