Laptop Ban: US May Prohibit Devices In Cabins On Flights From Europe

Homeland Security is considering imposing the same ban it has on flights from the Middle East.

WASHINGTON, DC — The United States plans to prohibit laptops in cabins on all flights from Europe, according to The Daily Beast. Department of Homeland Security spokesman David Lapan, however, says no final decisions have been made.

"No final decisions made on expanding the restriction on large electronic devices in aircraft cabins; however, it is under consideration," tweeted David Lapan, a Homeland Security spokesman.

He continued: "DHS continues to evaluate the threat environment and will make changes when necessary to keep air travelers safe."

American officials have previously banned passengers on flights from eight Muslim-majority countries from carrying electronic devices larger than a cell phone, requiring items such as laptops to instead be packed in checked luggage.

U.S. airlines are not affected by the ban, which is reportedly designed to address gaps in foreign airport security. The following airlines are affected: Egyptair, Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways, Kuwait Airways, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
