Macy’s To Close 66 Stores
The iconic department store says most of the 66 stores will close in the first quarter of 2025 and 150 will be shuttered over three years.

Macy’s is moving forward with plans announced last February to close 66 stores, the iconic department store chain said Thursday.
The majority of the stores are expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, the company said. Over three years in a plan described as Macy’s “Bold New Chapter,” the company plans to close 150 underperforming stores while at the same time investing more heavily in 350 stores that will remain open, according to a news release.
Nine stores will close in both California and New York. Eight stores will close in Florida, six will close in Texas, and four will close in both Michigan and Pennsylvania. Three stores will close in both Georgia and Washington.

States with two stores closing are Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Oregon, and one store each will close in Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Tennessee and Virginia.
“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” Macy’s chairman and CEO Tony Spring said in the news release.
