ACROSS AMERICA — The wildfires spreading through several Western U.S. states continue to cause injuries, damage buildings and destroy hundreds of thousands of forest — while also creating some vivid sunsets from coast to coast.

Smoke from the fires, most of which are burning through California and Oregon, reaches high into the sky and is carried eastward by jet stream winds aloft, media outlets across the country have reported.

With enough smoke, the change in the sky colors becomes noticeable.

Miami is just one of the many cities thousands of miles away from the raging Western wildfires seeing spectacular sunsets. Haze from wildfire smoke was spotted throughout last week as far east as New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., among others.

Air quality alerts have been issued as far as Massachusetts, with other authorities across the mid-Atlantic region issuing a "code orange" alert.
