Southwest Airlines Cancels Hundreds Of Flights Over Weekend
The airline's reasons for the cancellations dispute the reasons given by federal aviation regulators.

ACROSS AMERICA — Southwest Airlines flights at airports across the country have been canceled this weekend. The airline has canceled at least 1,800 flights, citing "disruptive weather" and air traffic control issues, according to a Washington Post report, although federal aviation officials have pointed to airline staffing and aircraft issues.
Sunday's cancellations amounted to 30 percent of the airline's schedule, according to The Post, which cited data from the flight-tracking website FlightAware. About 800 flights were canceled nationwide on Saturday. In all, more than 1,500 trips have been canceled over the weekend.
"ATC issues and disruptive weather have resulted in a high volume of cancellations throughout the weekend while we work to recover our operation," Southwest Airlines said in a Saturday tweet. "We appreciate your patience as we accommodate affected customers, and customer service wait times are longer than usual."
