Two Texas High School Football Players Suspended for Assaulting Referee

Both players were ejected from the game, now they've been suspended from school.

Two football players from John Jay High School in San Antonio have been suspended from school after they appeared to deliberately attack the referee during a game Friday night.

The two players were ejected from the game, according to MySanAntonio.com.

“This is disturbing,” said Northside Independent School District spokesman Pascual Gonzalez In a statement. “It is not the sportsmanlike behavior that we teach our students. We are cooperating fully with the University Interscholastic League with this investigation.”

During a 15-9 loss to Marble Falls, a school north of San Antonio, video shows two defensive backs from John Jay hit the ref. One player leveled him from behind, while the other lowers his helmet and piling on.

Officials said criminal charges may still be pending.
