Thanksgiving Fails: What Went Hilariously Wrong That You'll Never Live Down? [Survey]

A perfect Thanksgiving where every dish is a five-star hit and the fire department doesn't have to come by can be a high bar to clear.

Everyone’s still laughing — they’re laughing with you, not at you — about that time you forgot to remove the packet of giblets and neck from the turkey cavity and cooked them into a disgusting ball that made the dog yelp in protest, as if to say, “I am your best friend, but you cannot make me eat that.”

And that time you got all fancy and stuffed the turkey with fruit that spewed out of the bird’s butt like molten lava every time the barbecue spit rotated to the down position is certainly seared into your guests’ minds — if not their actual flesh.

Anyone who has ever been involved in Thanksgiving meal preparation knows it almost never comes off without a hitch. We thought it would be high-spirited holiday fun to ask readers about their biggest Thanksgiving fails or flops.

Was it the three-alarm turkey fryer fire that nearly burned down your house and garage, as well as the church next door filled to the rafters for a community Thanksgiving dinner? Or the time the tall chiffon cake, the centerpiece of the dessert table since before your great-great-great-grandmother was born, bounced like a ball even though you followed the family recipe exactly?

Or was it a home calamity, such as a broken water pipe, backed-up sewer, partial roof collapse or problems with bears, raccoons and other wildlife?
