In 2014, Lotus won the Chicago Headline Club Peter Lisagor award for best in-depth reporting. She also won two first prize University of Illinois Knight Awards for Investigative Journalism. She has a degree from University of Chicago and is a former daily reporter/night editor for the Lafayette, Ind. Journal & Courier (Gannett).
