Utah Man Crashes Subaru Into Dealer Door Hours After Buying It: Police
A customer "angry and upset" about Subaru he'd just bought vowed to slam it through the dealership door unless he got a refund, police said.
SALT LAKE CITY, UT — A Utah man claims he reached “a breaking point” Monday when he crashed his Subaru through glass doors of the Salt Lake City area car dealership where he had bought the car earlier in the day, according to news reports.
Michael Lee Murray, 35, bought the used Subaru Outback from the Tim Dahle Mazda Southtowne car dealership in Sandy for $4,000, police told Salt Lake City Fox affiliate KSTU.
A few hours later, Murray wanted his money back, claiming the car was a “lemon,” but the dealership initially declined a refund, saying the car had been sold “as is” and Murray knew that, the report said.

“We were very clear about the fact that this car is not retail,” Tyler Slade, a platform manager at the dealership, told the outlet. “It’s gonna need more inspecting and some work.”
The Sandy City Police Department told Newsweek “he was going to drive the vehicle through the front door” if he didn’t get his his $4,000 back.

“We’re like, ‘Woah, we don’t need to do that.’ Sit down, we can figure this out, we can find a solution,” Slade told the Fox affiliate, explaining the offer to make it right included a refund or a different vehicle.
Murray left the dealership, got in his car and crashed in through the door, just as he had threatened, causing about $10,000 damage, police told Newsweek. A police booking affidavit noted the presence of shattered glass and some pieces of the door and door frame that hit another vehicle in the showroom, damaging it as well.
“I told you (expletive)! I told you!” Murray said, slamming the car door and walking away, according to this video that was taken from inside the dealership.
“Call the cops!” someone shouted.
Murray returned briefly to grab the coat he’d tossed on the roof, asking, “Was anyone under the car?”
No one was injured, but about seven salespeople were standing near the door when Murray smashed through it, police said.
“I was actually just outside the building, but the noise, you can imagine, was a big bang and a lot of scrambling employees, and there was a lot of shuffling going on the lat minute before the customer rammed through the front door,” Slade told the Fox affiliate.
Murray was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and economic interruption, according to jail records.
“I was just really angry, upset about my money,” Murray told Inside Edition after his release from jail Tuesday. “I just kind of blacked out for a second.”
