US News Ranking: Fairfax County Public School #5 in the Nation

The school moved down two notches from #3 last year. US News released its high school rankings Tuesday.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- U.S. News & World Report is out Tuesday with its “Best High Schools” in the nation list and a local school ranks among the top schools in the country.

Fairfax County Public Schools’ Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County ranked #5 nationwide this year, down two notches from last year. The school came in #1 in Virginia.

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology also ranked #3 in the country for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) schools.

The School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Texas, takes the No. 1 spot in the national rankings for the fifth straight year.

The Best High Schools rankings evaluate data on more than 21,500 public high schools to identify which schools are best at preparing students for college and careers, according to U.S. News.
