Week Ahead: Joseph's Coat Closing, Back to School Sales Tax Holiday

The Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County will host a “Perils of the College Drinking Culture” forum and panel discussion in the Ernst Community Cultural Center on the Annandale campus of Northern Virginia Community College on Wednesday, July 31 from 7-9 p.m.
Virginia’s Sales Tax Holiday on School Supplies and Clothing is this weekend. From Friday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 4, purchases of qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item, will be exempt from sales tax.
Wednesday is the final day for Joseph's Coat thrift store, which is closing for good at month's end.

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter temporarily stopped taking in dogs last Friday after dogs at the shelter began showing symptoms of an unknown respiratory illness. The test results from that illness are expected to be released this week.
