Arlington Co. Board Primary Results: Democrats Choose Takis Karantonis
Incumbent Takis Karantonis defeated challenger James A. DeVita in Tuesday's Democratic Party primary in the Arlington County Board race.

ARLINGTON, VA — With all precincts reporting votes, Takis Karantonis defeated challenger James A. DeVita in Tuesday's Democratic Party primary, securing his spot on the Nov. 4 ballot, according to unofficial results.
"Thank you Arlington for showing up!" Karantonis said, in a post to his X account. "Not just for today's results, but for a promise to continue serving our community. I appreciate all your support on this campaign and look forward to carrying this momentum to November."
With 54 of 54 precincts reporting, here are the unofficial results for the Democratic Primary in the Arlington County Board race, according to the Virginia Board of Elections:

- James A. DeVita: 8,997 (35.86%)
- Takis Karantonis: 16,091 (64.14%)
Of Arlington's 179,714 registered voters, 25,885 or 14 percent cast ballots on Tuesday or during the early voting period.
Karantonis won 51 of Arlington's 54 precincts, with DeVita winning precincts 103 (Aurora Hills), 120 (Woodmont Center), and 135 (Madison Community Center), according to the board of elections.

In November, Karantonis will face three independent challengers — Audrey Clement, Carlos De Castro Pretelt and Jeramy Lee Olmack.
In the race for the 1st District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, Del. Patrick A. Hope defeated challengers Arjoon Srikanth and Sean Phillip Epstein.
Statewide, voters cast ballots in the lieutenant governor and attorney general races on Tuesday.

In April, the Virginia Republican Party cancelled its primary in the lieutenant governor’s after Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity dropped out due to health reasons. This left former conservative radio host John J. Reid II as the sole GOP candidate in that race.

The Republican candidates joining Reid on the November ballot are Winsome Earle-Sears and Jason Miyares, who are running in the governor and attorney general races, respectively. Abigail Spanberger is the Democratic Party’s candidate in the governor’s race.
