Del. Patrick Hope (D), who ran unopposed, won re-election to the 1st House District. Adele McClure, a Democrat who also ran unopposed, was victorious in the newly created 2nd House District.

At the polls on Tuesday, one voter said he voted for the Democratic slate, including Favola and Hope, because he believes the party is headed in the right direction

"I’m sort of a moderate, always have been. In fact, early on in my life, I was a Republican," the voter said. "But it seems to me the Republicans are in a bit of disarray because they don't have real leadership leading the party. I’m swaying to the Democrats to get a more moderate type of approach."

Heading into Tuesday's election, Republicans hold a 52-48 majority in the House of Delegates, while Democrats hold a 22-17 majority in the Senate, with one seat vacated by a Republican.

Another Arlington voter, Jeffrey Vandall, said that with the state legislature up for grabs, "it was really important to make sure we balance it out with the governor to make sure they don’t enact a lot of restrictions on abortion."

"I know in Arlington, it’s pretty safe for the Democrats. But you just have to get out there and vote to make sure," Vandall said.
