ARLINGTON, VA — It’s that time of year when residents need to apply for a residential parking permit to park on their street in certain Arlington neighborhoods.

But hold on! The Residential Permit Parking Program, which was scheduled to kick off this past Monday, has hit a snag.

“Our team looks forward to supporting your order,” Arlington County’s residential parking team said in an email to residents Wednesday. “Unfortunately, despite advance testing, our software vendor’s online system is not working to our satisfaction, and it has been taken down for adjustment.”

According to the email, online orders are not yet possible for 2023-2024 parking season materials. But the county hopes to have the system back up and running the week of April 10.

In the meantime, Arlington County has in-person customer service at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. in Room 214, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In recent years, Arlington County has processed orders for parking permits from more than 9,000 households that allowed parking on the street during restricted hours.

In 2021, the Arlington County Board approved an overhaul of the Residential Permit Parking Program that reduced the number of permits households with a driveway or garage could obtain.

For online orders, residents are encouraged to wait for the next update before trying to order the permits online.

“The good news is the seasonal application process will continue for the next several months, and we will make sure every customer receives permits and passes in a timely manner and with no issues involving enforcement beginning in July,” the county said.

Residents who want to apply in person should bring proof of residency at the address that corresponds to their requested permits, proof of low-income qualification if wishing to obtain that discount, and ensure the vehicle is registered with the Arlington County Commissioner of Revenue’s office at the correct address.
