ARLINGTON, VA — The Commentary Social House is hosting a dog adoption happy hour event on its patio in Arlington on May 20 for National Rescue Dog Day.

The event will launch The Commentary Social House’s new “Doggy Dishes” dog-friendly patio menu and will feature adoptable dogs from A Forever Home Animal Rescue. The restaurant is located in the Westin Arlington Gateway Hotel at 801 N. Glebe Road in the Ballston neighborhood.

Guests are welcome to bring their own dogs to enjoy happy hour, knowing whatever they spend goes to supporting animals in need.

The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 20. Customers can enjoy an updated happy hour menu, with 20 percent of the proceeds going to A Forever Home Rescue Foundation.

Chef Fran Ponte of The Commentary Social House created the Doggy Dishes using fresh house-made treats from kitchen scraps —like chicken strips and sweet potato bites — in an effort to minimize waste.

“Dogs are our family members and I know how hard it is to leave them home alone when we go out to enjoy ourselves, especially when they’ve gotten so used to being around us 24/7, so with this new initiative, we’ve created an experience to treat the whole family together in a healthy and sustainable way,” Ponte said in a statement.

The Commentary Social House offers a wide selection of shareables on its happy hour menu, which is available on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dogs are allowed on the restaurant’s patio each day of the week, not just on May 20.

A Forever Home is an all-breed, foster home only, animal rescue organization based in Northern Virginia that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes abused, neglected and abandoned puppies and dogs.

“Our goal is to find loving, forever homes for dogs in need, taking care to match the right dog with the right family," said Maribel Taylor-Maddox, founding member and treasurer of A Forever Home. "We also pride ourselves in providing all the medical care they need prior to adoption, regardless of costs.”
