ARLINGTON, VA — Flights into Ronald Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia were delayed by about 39 minutes early Monday, after the Federal Aviation Administration lifted a temporary ground delay due to alarm going off in the air traffic control tower, according to reports.

FAA paused flights into the airport at 10:45 a.m. and gave the all-clear around noon, according to Fox5 News.

The FAA did not say whether there was a fire in the tower, only that the tower was fully operational as of noon, according to NBC4.

Reagan airport was the site of the nation's deadliest plane crash since 2001 when an Army helicopter collided with an American Airlines jet in January in the skies over the capital and killed all 67 people aboard both aircraft, according to the Associated Press.

The Reagan National ground delay is the most recent snag in operations at a major airport in the D.C. Region. On July 25, a United Airlines pilot was forced to declare a mayday call after the plane's engine failed shortly after taking off from Dulles Airport.

Flight 108 was headed to Munich, Germany when the pilot declared "mayday, mayday, mayday" according to tower recordings and the airline on Monday, NBC News reported. The left engine of the 787 Dreamliner failed at 8 p.m., and airspace was cleared so it could return to the airport.
