Former W-L Basketball Coach Charged With Sexual Offenses: Police

Arlington County police charged a former Washington-Liberty High School basketball coach with sexual offenses from more than 20 years ago.

ARLINGTON, VA — A former Washington-Liberty High School basketball coach has been charged with sexual offenses in connection with incidents that occurred more than 20 years ago, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

George Porcha, 53, of Winterville, North Carolina, is charged with carnal knowledge of a minor and taking indecent liberties with children, police said Tuesday.

In October 2022, police started an investigation after receiving information about possible offenses involving minors that happened between 2000 and 2003 when Porcha was a girls' basketball coach at Washington-Liberty High School, which was named Washington-Lee High School at the time, police said.

As a result of the investigation, warrants were issued this month for offenses involving two female victims who were juveniles and students at Washington-Liberty High School at the time of the incidents, according to police.

Arlington police said they are continuing their investigation. Anyone who had past inappropriate encounters with Porcha is asked to contact Detective P.
