Kindness Is At The Core Of Middle Schooler: Arlington Star Student
Josephine of Arlington helps peers with school work and genuinely works toward creating a tolerant and inclusive environment for peers.

ARLINGTON, VA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Reina Blake, who nominated Josephine of Arlington. Always working to create a friendly environment, Josephine often brings baked goods to school to surprise teachers and her fellow students and to show she cares.

How do you know the star local student?
My child
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Jos is an incredibly involved 8th grader. While academically gifted, grades aren’t everything, but community is. Jos is an active participant in the school’s GSA club, designed the school’s logo for their Purple Star designation as a military kid friendly school, works as a stage manager for the school’s play, is active in the principal advisory board, helps peers with school work and genuinely works toward creating a tolerant and inclusive environment for peers. My kitchen has become a bakery to accommodate the random desire to surprise teachers and students with baked goods as a way to say, "Thank you!" Like all adolescents, there have been struggles following COVID, but Josephine meets each challenge head on.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Kindness is at the core of Jos’ belief system.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Josephine!
