Latest Financial Reports Filed By Arlington County Board Candidates

Arlington County Board candidates recently filed campaign finance reports with the state department of elections. Here are the details.

ARLINGTON, VA — Candidates running in the Nov. 4 general election had a Sept. 15 deadline to file a finance report with the Virginia Department of Elections, showing how much their campaign raised and spent to date.

The deadline applied not only to candidates running in the Virginia governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and House of Delegates races, but local races, including the Arlington County Board race.

The nonprofit Virginia Public Access Project reported the following information about the five county board candidates based on the latest financial filings with the state department of elections:

Arlington County Board

* Incumbent

Incumbent Board Member Takis Karantonis (D) reported receiving significantly more than the four other candidates. In fact, he raised nearly five times the amount reported by the next closest candidate, Audrey Clement.

The following are Karantonis' top contributors and the industry in which they reported working, according to VPAP.

  • $2,000 - Allen Khalatbari (Non-wage earner)
  • $1,350 - JD Spain Sr. (Local Government Employee)**
  • $1,050 - Susan English (Retired)
  • $1,001 - Tony Weaver (Building Trades/Subcontractors)
  • $1,000 - Zecarias Berhe (Occupation Unknown)
  • $1,000 - Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (Realtors)
  • $1,000 - United Brotherhood of Carpenters (Labor - Miscellaneous)

** JD Spain Sr. was elected to the Arlington County Board in November 2024.

Of the remaining candidates, Clement reported donating $10,738 to finance her campaign and Olmack's largest contributor was Good Party LLC, which gave an in-kind donation of $310 for campaign signs. Pretelt reported that he had taken a $1,000 loan to finance his campaign.
