MD Man Brought Chef's Knife To Pentagon, Police Say

A Maryland man was arrested Wednesday for bringing a knife to the Pentagon, where he planned to slit his own throat, court records say.

ARLINGTON, VA — A Maryland man was arrested by a federal officer on Wednesday for bringing a 9-inch chef's knife to the Pentagon in July, which he planned to use to slit his own throat, according to court documents.

On July 22, Dylan Matthew Sloan of Hyattsville, Maryland, approached the Corridor 3 pedestrian bridge guard booth at the Pentagon, according to an affidavit submitted by a special agent with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency. Sloan carried a black suitcase in his left hand and the knife in his right hand.

Sloan gestured the knife at the officer indicating that he wanted the turnstile to be opened, according to the affidavit. The officer locked the booth and radioed that there was someone with a knife at Corridor 3.

After the pedestrian bridge was evacuated and the building put on lockdown, additional officers arrived and took Sloan into custody.

The next day, a Pentagon officer interviewed Sloan.

"Sloan explained that he had been receiving messages to his brain via 'V2K Technology,' which he described as signals sent from one brain to another brain via radio towers that allow the receiver to hear and see audio and visual messages," according to the affidavit. "Sloan stated that a few days before, he had received messages from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump."

After expressing frustration with politicians in general, Sloan told the officer that he planned to use the chef knife to cut his own throat in front of the Pentagon.

Sloan also admitted that he had traveled from Hyattsville to the Pentagon, stopping on the way at a Washington, D.C. bar, according to the affidavit.

"While in Hyattsville, he said he traveled to a park near the University of Maryland to find and molest a five- to seven-year-old child," according to the affidavit. "Sloan did not have a particular child in mind. He said he wanted to molest a younger female because he was tired of older women. When asked what he meant by molest, Sloan stated he wanted to touch children’s breasts and vaginas."

Sloan told the officer that he had never molested a child before and that the Hyattsville incident was his first attempt, according to the affidavit.

Based on this evidence, a complaint was filed on Aug. 14 and an arrest warrant was issued the next day. Sloan was arrested on Wednesday.

Sloan was charged with interfering with agency functions and possession of a weapon at the Pentagon, according to court records. The case will be tried at the U.S. District Court in Alexandria.
