Multiple Vehicles Catch Fire, 1 Dead On Woodrow Wilson Bridge

BREAKING NEWS: All eastbound lane of the Beltway Outer Loop at Woodrow Wilson Bridge are closed for multiple vehicles on fire.

(Updated at 12 p.m. Wednesday): ARLINGTON, VA — One person died after multiple cars caught on fire on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Wednesday morning, according to reports.

All eastbound lanes are closed of the Beltway Outer Loop (I-95/495), Virginia Department of Transportation officials said.

Officials believe a tractor trailer lost control and struck construction vehicles working on the bridge, Maryland State Police said.

Police and fire boats are "working multiple vehicle fires on Outer Loop thru-lanes on the Wilson Bridge - mid-span," Chief Spokesperson for the Prince George's Fire Department Mark Brady said.

The incident appeared to have started from a multi-vehicle collision on the bridge involving a broom truck. This resulted in a fire and stranded three workers in an extended bucket under the bridge, Brady said.

One person died in the crash. The three workers were successfully rescued, Brady said.

The vehicles on fire have been mostly extinguished by 11:25 a.m.
