Pet Adoption Event In Arlington Starts Early Due To Crowded Kennels

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington's kennels are at capacity, leading the league to start a special adoption event a few days early.

ARLINGTON, VA — The dog kennels at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington are at capacity, leading the league to start a special adoption event a few days early.

The Bissell Pet Foundation’s "Empty the Shelters" event is scheduled to run from July 21 to July 31. But AWLA said it is now honoring the discounted adoption rates due to the crowded kennels at the Arlington shelter.

As part of the adoption event, all adult dogs and cats — six months and older — can be adopted for only $50. The adoption fees for small companion animals are 50 percent off through July 31.

Several factors, including the cost of adopting and taking care of a pet and people traveling during the summer, could be contributing to slow adoption rates.

The public can visit AWLA's website to see all the dogs available for adoption. AWLA is located at 2650 S. Arlington Mill Drive in Arlington.
