Because of mandated redistricting that happened after the 2020 Census, Virginia's legislative district maps have been redrawn. Redistricting placed Favola in the state's new 40th Senate District, which represents about 85 percent of Arlington and no other jurisdictions.

Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-39) represents the remaining part of Arlington. He is not being challenged in the Democratic primary.
