VDOT Begins Repairs On Parking Garage Next To W-L High School

During construction over the next year, overnight lane closures may be scheduled on I-66 in the area of the parking garage, VDOT said.

ARLINGTON, VA — The Virginia Department of Transportation has started work to repair and upgrade the parking garage next to Washington-Liberty High School that sits above Interstate 66 in Arlington.

The $3.9 million Parking Garage Repairs over I-66 Project is being financed with state funding. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2024.

The project’s goal is to improve the safety of the garage and extend its life, VDOT said Wednesday. The three-story concrete garage was built in 1982.

The project include will include garage platform and ramp repairs with joint replacement; repairs to beams and columns; and partial removal of the elastomeric bearing sheets.

During construction over the next year, overnight lane closures may be scheduled on I-66 in the area of the garage, VDOT said. The Custis Trail next to the garage will remain open to bicyclists and pedestrians.
