Virginia Pizzeria Ranked Among Top 50 In U.S.
If you're a connoisseur of pizza and are traveling this year, here's the one pizzeria in Virginia that you need to visit.

ARLINGTON, VA — One of the best pizzas in the country can be found in Virginia, according to the new 50 Top Pizza guide based on the findings of a team of inspectors who anonymously evaluate pizzerias around the world.
“Year after year we are noticing changes in pizzerias across the United States that have led to increasingly interesting ideas and that are good for the entire industry,” guide curators Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere said in a statement. “We would also like to mention that the different styles of pizza that our inspectors get to enjoy are also getting more numerous. This is a good thing because it creates a wider variety for the customer.”
According to their list, one of the best pizzas in the country can be found at A Modo Mio Pizzeria Napoletana & Bar, located at 5555 Langston Blvd. in Arlington.

A post on A Modo Mio's Facebook page congratulated Chefs Antonio Biglietto and Antonio Riccio's dedication to their Neapolitan heritage and craft, and General Manager Rosario Farruggio, Manager Mikki Djurdjevik, and founder Joe Farruggio for their ongoing efforts that helped the restaurant make the 50 Top Pizza list.
The Farruggio family has a rich history as immigrants to the U.S. from Sicily. Hailing from Agrigento, Italy, according to the restaurant's website. The family brought its Italian heritage and love of authentic flavors with them. The Farruggios opened their first restaurant in 1978, with the goal of bringing the authentic Italian experience to Arlington and uses family recipes.
"We confirmed that America truly is the land of opportunity when we moved to Virginia and opened the first Joe's Place in Bailey's Crossroads in 1978," the owners said on the restaurant's website. "With ongoing success, we opened additional restaurants, and in 2007 consolidated our operations in the Arlington and Vienna locations so that our family members could remain closely involved at each restaurant, and ensure the superior customer service we proudly provide each day."
A Modo Mio embraces the classic Neapolitan methods of preparing and cooking pizza, which is now recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, the business said. That includes a custom, hand-built brick oven from Italy.
Two other restaurants in the DMV made the list: Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana in Gaithersburg, and Angeli’s Pizzeria, in Baltimore, which ranked 21st and 44th, respectively.
