What's Open, Closed For New Year's 2024 In Arlington

ARLINGTON, VA — New Year's Day falls on a Monday in 2024, so there will be various schedule changes over several days.

Arlington County government will be closed Monday, Jan. 1. Other services have schedule changes on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day or surrounding days.

Arlington County government offices: Closed Monday, Jan. 1.

Arlington Public Schools: On winter break from Wednesday, Dec. 21 through Monday, Jan. 1.

Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1 and Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.

Libraries: Arlington Public Libraries will be closed on Sunday, Dec. 31 and Monday, Jan. 1.

Recycling/Trash/Organics Curbside Routes – No collection on New Year's Day. Curbside collection will shift by one day for all routes (e.g., Monday routes will be serviced on Tuesday).

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are closed Monday, Jan. 1.

Post offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 1.

Metrorail: On New Year’s Eve on Sunday, Dec. 31, Metrorail will operate on Sunday schedule, with service starting at 7 a.m., but ending at a time to be determined after midnight. ART Bus: ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate.

Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: All community centers, administrative offices and classes are closed from Monday, Jan. 1. The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31 and will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1. Parks in Arlington will be open over the New Year's weekend.

Animal Welfare League of Arlington: Closed on Monday, Jan. 1. The Arlington County Animal Control team can be reached for emergencies at 703-931-9241.

Sheriff's Office: Administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1. Fingerprinting for the public and county employees are open Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the sheriff's office website for detention center visiting hours.
