Fairfax City Star Athlete: Sydney Helps Teammates Excel In Golf

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Ashley Dinh who nominated her daughter Sydney, who is a seventh grader from Fairfax City.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Sydney displays incredible discipline, hard work, kindness, teamwork and mentorship to younger golfers. As an athlete, her focus and determination has propel her to be among the top 8 in the country in the National UnderArmour Junior Golf Tour this past summer. Sydney also participated in the US Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst, NC this summer.

As a team, Sydney helped her jrPGA League to regional. During local jrPGA League matches, Sydney helped many younger junior players excel in golf by offering advices and mentorship. She is their biggest cheerleader! She’s a dual athlete and excels in tennis also.

As a 7th grader, she has maintained grades ranging from 96-100 in all her classes. One of Sydney’s biggest accomplishment last month was winning the Army Navy Country Club’s Women Club Championship (the youngest player at 12 y/o to claim the title in the club’s 100 years existence). She competed against women in their late 30’s and early 40’s. We are very proud of her achievement, but most of all, how Sydney carries herself and always willing to help others succeed.

Sydney is very humble, funny and pleasant to be around.
