Fairfax Teen Charged in Car Window Smashing: Police

Also in Monday's crime bulletin: Motorcycle vandalized, trespassing at McDonald's, slashed tires, mail theft and DUI arrest, police say.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA -- Here's a look at recent crime in Fairfax City, from the Crime Bulletin released by Fairfax City Police Monday.

Destruction of Property Arrest 16-08290: 9600 Main Street / Parking Lot – On May 16 at 8:51 PM the vehicle owner reported that a window on his parked vehicle had been broken. As the result of investigation by the Patrol Division in cooperation with Fairfax County Police, a suspect was located and taken into custody. After being transported to the Adult Detention Center and charged by Fairfax County Police for unrelated incidents, Carlos E. Vargas Diaz, 18, of 3831 Prince William Drive, Fairfax, was charged by City of Fairfax Police with destruction of property and his bond was set at $1,000.

Vandalism 16-08472: 11010 Fairfax Boulevard / Brown’s Nissan Parking Lot – On May 18 at 10:29 PM the motorcycle owner reported that sometime after 10:00 PM on May 16 unknown person(s) had smeared an unknown greasy substance on his parked vehicle.

Interdiction Arrest 16-08616: 3924 Old Lee Highway / McDonald’s – On May 21 at 4:12 PM an officer responding to a report of an intoxicated person in the restaurant determined that the male subject was under an interdiction order and also had previously been trespassed from the business. Vincent Garnett Surface, 50, of 4322 Duncan Drive, Fairfax, was transported to the Adult Detention Center where he was charged with being an interdicted person and with trespassing and his bond was set at $2500.

Vehicle Tampering 16-08622: 4085 Chain Bridge Road / Parking Lot – On May 21 at 6:55 PM the vehicle owner reported that sometime after 5:00 PM on May 20 unknown person(s) had slashed the tires on her parked vehicle.

Larceny 16-08625: 10400 Block of Cleveland Street – On May 21 at 8:57 PM the resident reported that on May 17 unknown person(s) had signed for a piece of certified mail which had been addressed to him and which Postal Service records had been delivered to him.

DUI Arrest 16-08647: Chain Bridge Road / Courtney Drive – On May 22 at 1:12 AM officers responding to a report of a hit and run traffic crash located the vehicle in the area and determined that the driver was intoxicated. Gabriel Iriarte Fernandez, 30, of 604 Lincoln Avenue, Sterling, was transported to the Adult Detention Center where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol—second or subsequent offense, refusal of blood/breath test, hit/run of unattended property and failure to maintain proper control. His bond was set at $4,000.
