Welcome to The Week Ahead, giving you a snapshot of what's going on in the Fairfax area this week.

LEGOS and robotics – parents, need we say more? First LEGO League is a robotics program for 9- to 14-year-olds designed to get children excited about science and technology. Fairfax County Libraries want you to know that your local library is a great place for groups such as First LEGO League to meet. Join library staff for an information session to show you how you and other local parents can start your own First LEGO League meetup at the library, this Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Burke Centre Library. Click here for more information on how to RSVP.

As the start of the new school year gets closer, you may be in need of a new daycare situation. This Saturday, Aug. 17, Rise and Shine Daycare is holding an Open House for interested families, from 4-6 p.m. “Please join us so that we can introduce to you to our center, our vision, and our goals for the children,” staff members said in their announcement on Patch. For the center’s address, website and phone number, click here to see their announcement on Patch.

No, your chances of getting your child some summer camp days before school starts are not all lost. Starting today, Aug. 12, through Aug. 23, our neighbors at nearby Vienna Baptist Church are holding their sought-after Vienna Teen Theater and Show camp. Participating kids will receive training in singing, acting, movement, stage combat and improvisation, all from industry professionals, culminating in a full-scale performance of the classic Cinderella at the end of camp. Boys and girls, rising seventh- to twelfth-graders, are welcome. Camp is from 4-7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the cost is very reasonable – just $100 for non-members, or $50 for members. For more information including last-minute sign-ups, visit their announcement on Patch.
