'Something Has Gone Wrong In That Boy's Life': Fairfax Police Chief Davis
A 16-year-old boy accused of threatening to kill two people was arrested Monday on charges that he stabbed a Fairfax County police officer.

FAIR LAKES, VA — A 16-year-old boy who called 911 saying he was going to kill two people is charged with malicious wounding after stabbing a Fairfax County Police officer on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.
“Something has gone wrong in that young man’s life,” said Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis, during a news conference at public safety headquarters on Tuesday. “There’s no doubt about it. I think that’s something that we can all probably agree on. The services, the help, the rehabilitation, whatever that young person needs to be a contributory member of society has gone sideways.”
Two officers were dispatched around 2:38 p.m. to the 12800 block of Fair Lakes Parkway in Fair Lakes after receiving a 911 call in which the caller reported he was going to kill two people.

Officers were standing outside their cruisers and asking dispatch for more details about the suspect, when a young man darted toward one of their vehicles. The officers ran toward the teen to prevent him from getting into the cruiser, which had its door open and engine running, according to Davis.
However, the suspect spun around and slashed at one of the officers with a knife and then fell to the ground, the chief said. The officers then took the suspect into custody.

One of the officers, whom Davis described as a six-year veteran of the force, suffered a cut on his side. The injured officer was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and later released.
Davis did not release the name of the suspect, only describing him as a 16-year-old boy who the department had previously encountered.
The teen will not be charged as an adult, according to the chief.
“There’s a lot going on in our world and in our country. There’s a lot going on locally,” Davis said. "When a uniformed police officer is stabbed and, but for the grace of God, is alive, I think we tend to blow by it quickly as a society, as a profession.”
