FAIRFAX, VA — A Virginia woman who struck and injured a state trooper with her SUV Friday morning on Interstate 66 near the Captital Beltway, has been charged with reckless driving, according to authorities.

Around 6:40 a.m., Candace C. Skinker of Marshall was driving a Lexus SUV southbound in the right lane of the I-66 Express Lanes when she struck the trooper's vehicle, which had its lights on and was sitting in the same lane, according to police.

At that time of the crash, the trooper was working on an earlier crash involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer that occurred in the left lane of the I-66 main lanes, according to police.

The trooper receive minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. VSP reported that he has since been released.

Skinker and a SUV passenger were also taken to the hospital to be medically evaluated. There were no injuries reported from the earlier crash, according to police.
