Virginia Weekend Forecast: Severe Thunderstorms Possible

Plans outside this weekend may be cancelled as severe weather moves into the region.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected for the commute home Friday afternoon, with some potential for heavy rain during thunderstorms.

We'll wake Saturday to patch fog, with another chance for an afternoon storm after 4 p.m.

Sunday will be our best chance for severe weather, likely before lunch. Winds will be blowing up to 10 mph.

The system may include large hail and damaging winds, according to the Weather Channel.

Monday will begin a week of mostly sunny skies and slightly cooler temperatures.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between noon and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. High near 84. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.
