What's Open, Closed On New Year's Day 2026 In Fredericksburg

Various services will have changes or closures for the New Year's Day, which follows New Year's Eve events.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Fredericksburg residents will head into the new year starting with a holiday, prompting closures and schedule changes affecting government offices, schools, transit and other services.

Here are the openings and closures to know on Thursday, Jan. 1:

  • Fredericksburg Government Offices: Closed on Thursday, Jan. 1.
  • State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Thursday, Jan. 1.
  • Fredericksburg Public Schools: Closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 2.
  • Fredericksburg Law Enforcement Offices: Closed on Thursday, Jan. 1.
  • FXBGO! will not operate transit services on Thursday, Jan. 1.
  • Fredericksburg Trash & Recycling: Thursday and Friday’s curbside trash and recycling collection will occur as normally scheduled. All items must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. Items not at the curb when crews pass will not be collected and must be removed until your next regularly scheduled collection day.
  • Belman Road Recycling Center and the Stafford Landfill will be closed New Year’s Day and resume normal operating hours Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Central Rappahannock Regional Library: Some locations have special hours for Wednesday, Dec. 31. All branches are closed on Thursday, Jan. 1.
  • Post Offices: Closed Thursday, Jan. 1.
  • ABC Stores: Virginia ABC stores will close at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 1.
  • Department of Motor Vehicles: Virginia DMV locations will be closed on Jan. 1.
