Curbside Grocery Pick-Up Service Now Offered in Herndon, 'Char-a-oke,' Herndon Photography Meetup, and More

Our daily briefs, bringing you local Herndon news and events at a glance.

Out of a bunch of staples at home, but just too busy for a long grocery trip? The Giant grocery store at 1228 Elden St. in Herndon now offers pick-up service. Just go to the website Peapod.com on your laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablet and place your order for what you need, and it can be ready in as fast as five minutes, representatives said. Best part is? There’s no minimum purchase, and no fees, and you can even enter your Giant card number so you still earn your gas points. And, when you swing by the store after placing your order, you don’t even need to get out of the car – your groceries will be brought right to you! For more information, visit www.giantfood.com/pick-up. The pick-up option is available at a total of 20 Giant stores in Maryland, Virginia and D.C., including nearby at the Cascades Marketplace store at 20961 Southbank Street in Sterling.

Are you an amateur photographer (or itching to be)? Would you like to meet like-minded enthusiasts to hone your skills with and make new friends? Local resident Jayasree Tadanki has started the “Amateur Photographers of Herndon” group on Meetup.com, and welcomes you to join. The first meetup is this Sunday!  Click here to view the group’s Meetup page and sign up if interested.

Do you love karaoke? How about “char-a-oke?” This Thursday, Aug. 29 is Fairfax County Public Schools’ third annual charitable karaoke fundraiser, known as “Char-a-oke.” Locals are invited to build employee engagement by putting together a team to belt out your favorite karaoke song, or attend as a guest for great networking and delicious catering from Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Proceeds benefit the Education Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools. Entrants compete for trophies like Best Vocals, Best Rendition, Crowd Favorite and Most Spirited. Raffle tickets are also available for $20 each, and can win you a five-night stay at any Hilton hotel worldwide. Tickets range from $75 for a single spectator to $1,000 for a team package with extra perks. It all takes place at the Barns at Wolf Trap, in Vienna. Click here to visit the website for more information or to register.
