This Weekend: Cycle Fest, Lord of the Rings, Classic Car Show and Grandparents Day in Herndon, and More

The Wolf Trap hosts a live musical accompaniment to “The Lord of the Rings” in screenings on Friday and Saturday. It’s a chance to see Frodo’s epic journey out of the Shire, with a new twist. The performance includes a high-definition presentation of the film, with a full orchestra, chorus and soloists. From $25. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Filene Center, 1645 Trap Road, Vienna.
Members of eight tribes will be on hand for the Virginia Indian Festival on Saturday at Riverbend Park. The event will include the Rappahannock dancers and drummers, as well as hands-on activities and demonstrations, including storytelling, throwing spears and making stone tools. There will also be a marketplace with crafts and jewelry. $5. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverbend Park, 8700 Potomac Hills Street, Great Falls.

Don't forget, this Sunday is Grandparents Day - and Herndon is the place to be to celebrate with them. This Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Depot and W&OD caboose near the Town Green will be open - which is a rare occasion - along with plenty of fun, family-friendly activities for the kids and grandma and grandpa to enjoy. Also, the Dulles AARP Herndon Classic Car Show will be happening at the same time, benefitting the geriatric care nursing program at George Mason University. Free. The Burke Centre Festival returns for a 36th year at the Conservancy Festival Grounds all weekend. Admission is free for the popular community event. There will be rides, children activities, demonstrations, arts and crafts and more. Free. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., wine garden 5-10 p.m. Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the festival grounds, 6060 Burke Centre Parkway.
The 4th Annual Cycle Fest starts at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia on Sunday morning. The JCC-sponsored event includes distances of 30, 50 and 65 miles. The Cycle Fest benefits the Wounded Warriors Project and Hazon. $50, includes Cycle Fest T-shirt, rest stop treats and mechanical support. 7:30 a.m. 8900 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax.
Runners will take their mark on Sunday at the Reston Triathlon. Participants swim for a mile in Lake Audubon, bike more than 22 miles through Reston and run more than 6 miles to the finish line at South Lakes High School. 7 a.m. at Lake Audubon. Note: There will be no parking on Twin Branches Road.
