Andy Warhol, CatJam to Benefit Suicide Prevention and 'The Rite of Spring'

Here are 5 things you should know in the Kingstowne area for Sept. 12.

It's Thursday, Sept. 12 and there are only ten days left until summer is officially over. Here are a few things you should know about in NoVa today.

  • Fall is approaching but it’s never too late to enjoy “The Rite of Spring.” Enjoy a filmed performance of the Ballets Russes at the National Gallery of Art, 4th and Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, DC. 202-737-4215. The film shows at 12:30 p.m. Free!
  • Andy Warhol silver clouds opening reception at Artisphere. For the first time in the DC area, 150 of the “clouds” made in the mid-1960s with the plastic-like Scotchpak material will be on display at the Arlington art space. The opening reception runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.Free! The exhibit is on loan from the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Artisphere is located at 1101 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. 703-875-1100.
  • Have a wedding dress you have no use for anymore? Well pull it out for tomorrow. Brides Against Breast Cancer is a national nonprofit that tours the country selling donated wedding gowns with the proceeds going toward programs and services for people who are impacted by cancer.  The "Nationwide Tour of Gowns" will make a tour stop in Washington, DC Sept. 13-14 at the Dupont Circle Hotel, 1500 New Hampshire Ave. http://www.bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/upcoming-shows-2013/washington-dc-bridal-show-september-2013/ 
  • Fairfax County recently appointed Battalion Chief Richard A. Roatch as the new deputy fire chief.
  • This week's CatJam at King Street Blues in Kingstowne will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and their Fairfax 
    Out of the Darkness Community Walk.
