Build A Child's Library Event Brings New Books and Smiles

Assistance League Continues Annual Book Fairs at Local Elementary School

Assistance League of Northern Virginia recently held a book fair at a local Title 1 elementary school, where 311 students selected a brand-new book on a topic of their choosing. Nine members were on hand to help students find the perfect book, add a stamp to the book stating: ‘This book belongs to:’ and to help younger students sign their names. These annual “Build a Child’s Library” events are as much fun for Assistance League volunteers as they are for the students, because members get to share the excitement of the students at finding a special book. The students expressed gratitude for their new books and many remembered attending a book fair in previous years. One group of happy students returned to their classroom with their new books lifted high!
