FCPD Conducts Safe Driving Event at Greenspring

Officers checked residents' headlights, brake lights and assisted them in refreshing their driving skills.

Fairfax County police officers with the Franconia District Station hosted a safe driving event at Greenspring Retirement Community Thursday in Springfield.

The officers took a few hours to check the brake lights, headlights, turning signals and other vehicular functions before leading them through a short, safe driving refresher course.

Franconia District Assistant Commander William Jacoby said Greenspring is a great community of people and most of the residents wanted to participate in the event to refresh their skills.

The officers blocked off a visitors' parking area at the community where residents practiced driving in reverse and parking.

Jessica McKay, public affairs manager for Greenspring, said the retirement community also administers their own driving test for residents. During the screening, they check visual acuity, physical ability and perceptual/cognitive abilities.
