July 30: Orchestra Performance, Mulligan Road and Preschool Storytime

Here's what you should know in Kingstowne today.

It's Tuesday, and July is quickly coming to an end. But before we move on to the dog days of August, here's some information and events you should know about in Kingstowne today.

  • Keep the kids occupied and their mind stimulated by taking them to Brown Academy's Preschool Storytime.
  • A new Chinese restaurant called Canton Cafe recently opened at Springfield Plaza next to Trader Joe's. Patch tried them out for lunch last week to find that they had a delicious dim sum selection and reasonable lunch specials.
  • Construction on Mulligan Road is still underway. The project is coming pretty close to its final stages. According to the SFDC website, the road will be completed and ready for use by the end of the year.
  • Swing by the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. It offers free performances 365 days a year. Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., catch the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra. The group brings together musicians of different ages and abilities to promote mutual growth and understanding through musical performance.
  • The butler did it, and the reporter wrote it. Listen to the story of Eugene Allen who worked as a White House butler for 34 years as told by reporter Wil Haygood in his book “The Butler: A Witness to History.” Haygood will discuss his book at Politics and Prose, 5015 Connecticut Ave., NW in Washington. Beer and wine available. 7 p.m.
