KINGSTOWNE, VA — The new school year is quickly approaching, and families are available to help families prepare for the first day in the Kingstowne area for students at Fairfax County Public Schools.

The first day of school for most students in Fairfax County is Monday, Aug. 21.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. Here is the list of dates to know for this school year:

  • Aug. 21: First day of school
  • Sept. 1-4: Labor Day holiday break
  • Sept. 16: Rosh Hashanah observance, begins sundown Sept. 15 to sundown on Sept. 17
  • Sept. 25: Yom Kippur holiday
  • Oct. 9: Indigenous Peoples’ Day student holiday/staff development day
  • Nov. 1-2: All Saints Day - Día de los Muertos observance
  • Nov. 3: Early release
  • Nov. 6: Student holiday/staff planning day
  • Nov. 7: Election Day student holiday/teacher work day
  • Nov. 11: Veterans Day
  • Nov. 12: Diwali
  • Nov. 22-24: Thanksgiving holiday break
  • Dec. 7: Chanukah observance, begins sundown to sundown on Dec. 15.
  • Dec. 8: Bodhi Day observance
  • Dec. 18-Jan. 1: Winter break; Christmas on Dec. 25; New Year's Day on Jan. 1
  • Jan. 6: Three Kings Day - Epiphany observances

  • March 5: Presidential primary (tentative)
  • March 10-April 9: First full day of Ramadan observance, begins sundown on March 10 and continues with daily fast and nightly prayer until April 9.
  • March 20: Orthodox Ash Wednesday observance
  • March 25-29: Spring break (Good Friday on March 29, Easter on March 31)
  • April 1: Teacher work day
  • April 2: Staff development day
  • April 9-10: Eid al Fitr observance, begins on sundown April 9 to sundown April 10.
  • April 22-30: First evening of Passover observance, begins sundown on April 22 to sundown on April 30
  • April 24: Theravada New Year observance
  • May 3: Teacher work day
  • May 5: Orthodox Easter observance
  • May 27: Memorial Day holiday
  • June 12: Last day of school with early release
