Metro Considers Shutting Down Stations During Off-Peak Hours as Cost-Saving Measure
Van Dorn Street, Eisenhower among 20 stations being considered for shutdown during off-peak hours, according to Metro budget memo.
The DC Metro is considering closing 20 Metro stations during off-peak hours including weekends at stations with the lowest ridership, according to a finance memo from an Oct. 13 Metro meeting. Two of those stations are in the Kingstowne area -- the Eisenhower Avenue station and the Van Dorn Street station.
Metro defined "off peak" as middays, evenings and weekends. The proposal was made as part of an array of ideas on how to close a $275 million shortfall with the Metro budget.
Of the 20 proposed stations, seven of them are in Northern Virginia. Besides Eisenhower and Van Dorn, the others in Virginia are the Vienna Virginia Square/GMU stop, West Falls Church, McLean, Greensboro and Spring Hill in Tysons.
