'Our Special Harbor' Set to Open Memorial Day Weekend

The playground for two to five year olds will be closed from now through approximately June 10 to add shade, other enhancements.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- The Family Recreation Area at Lee District Park is well-known for Chessie’s Big Backyard playground, and the popular Our Special Harbor spray ground. The two playgrounds are open to the public during daylight hours and Our Special Harbor is set to open on Memorial Day weekend.

At the two to five age group playground, a structure will be constructed over the play area to provide much-needed shade and to enhance the play experience. Due to minor design modifications as well as the rainy weather of the past several weeks the completion of this project has been delayed.

However, the project team is now ready to resume the installation. The playground for two to five year olds will be closed from now through approximately June 10. The impact to the 5-12 year old playground will be minimal but visitors are encouraged to contact the Lee District RECenter at 703-922-9840 prior to visiting to be certain the facilities are available to the public.
