Trash Truck Overturns on I-495 Near Van Dorn Exit: Police
Driver injured Saturday after trash truck overturns on I-495 near Van Dorn exit, according to Virginia State Police.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- A trash truck overturned due to an equipment failure Saturday afternoon on I-495 near the Van Dorn Street exit, sending the driver to the hospital, according to Virginia State Police.
Police say they responded Saturday at 12:17 p.m., to the single-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of I-495, just east of Exit 173/Van Dorn.
As the trash truck was traveling east on I-495, it experienced an equipment failure, police said. The driver, a 43-year-old man from Upper Marlboro, Md., lost control of the truck and it overturned onto its side, police said. Some roads in the region were slippery due to wintry weather, but police did not mention slippery roads as a factor in the crash.

The driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
The Virginia State Police Fairfax Division Motor Carrier Safety Team responded to the scene to inspect the vehicle. The scene was cleared and eastbound lanes of I-495 re-opened by 2:06 p.m.
