Weekend Food For Kids Program Helps Avoid Hunger

Program Provides Food For When School Meals Are Not Available

Assistance League of Northern Virginia’s Weekend Food for Kids program recently completed its November packing. Its members were joined by staff of Dominion Energy, which has been the long-time partner in this effort. They packed 1,900 bags of nonperishable food, helped by a team from Springfield Golf and Country Club, where Assistance League will hold its Italian Dinner and Live Music Fundraiser on January 9. Also helping were other community volunteers representing RBH Global Wealth Partners, Didlake, Crossroads Connections, and Nativity Church Craft Club, among others. The volunteers’ enjoyment of this important program was enhanced by the seasonal music playing in the background.

After the bags were packed, they were loaded onto Dominion trucks and delivered to six Title 1 elementary schools in Fairfax and Prince William counties. The weekend food bags help ensure that students arrive at school ready to learn and thrive.
